President’s Letter (February 10, 2020)

Dear Colleagues, The beginning of the new year has brought a number of major issues not only to the Ophthalmology area, but to the entire World. The corona virus pneumonia pandemic has invested all human activities and we are aware that this phenomenon may have long-lasting consequences. Since the next AOPT Congress was announced to be held in Shenyang, China, on March 11-14 2021, the AOPT Board together with colleagues in Shenyang is carefully evaluating all problems related to this very important event. I will keep you informed about the final decision the Board will take about this issue. As trustees of AOPT we must consider all the ramifications members and sponsors. On another note, it is my pleasure announcing that the AOPT Board unanimously has appointed the following AOPT Fellows: Drs Malinda Fitzgerald, Carol Toris, Achim Kraus, Dan Stamer, Tom Yorio, and Najam Sharif. They will receive their Fellows Diploma and be recognized in the AOPT website. This May AOPT will have a booth at ARVO. Please stop by booth 6022 in Baltimore to meet our Trustees and learn about our meetings. In late Summer 2020 AOPT will sponsor the Diabetic Retinopathy Meeting to be held in Santa Fe, New Mexico (USA). Information about abstracts, agenda, and keynote speakers will be on the AOPT website. Finally, I have to tell you that our website will be going under re-construction to make it more attractive and functionally adequate for our members. A warm hug.
